arrow ARTWORK FROM THE Studio Arts Program Artwork by Mike Lyon

Mike Lyon

Mike Lyon is one of the full time artists working at the Center for the Arts, and he takes great pride in his position as an artist.  Mike approaches his art in a methodical and orderly way.  He prefers to build his compositions from geometric elements, circles and triangles, which are boldly outlined and repeated.  He is often drawn to the simple contrast of black and white, which lends his fields of geometric forms a stark elegance.  Just as often he will turn to the addition of bold colors, sometimes using them to fill up his repeated circles and sometimes washing over large expanses of the existing composition.  He will continue to build up colors, shapes and textures, frequently stopping to consider the effect that has been achieved, until he has attained a certain balance and harmony.

Mike favors basic drawing media, such as markers, pencils and ball-point pens, but has mastered the use of many different media which he employs when he considers them to be advantageous.  Mike has recently expanding his repertoire to include computer generated images, manipulated photos and other multi-media works.
